In the Sticks Comic Strip Launches with First-Ever Behind-the-Scenes Look

In the Sticks is the story of an ex-pro golfer named Del who buys the golf course once owned by his great-grandfather in the hopes of restoring it to its past glory.

Kansas City, Mo. (PRWEB) October 13, 2009

Universal Uclick has announced the launch of In the Sticks, a new comic strip by Nathan Cooper that makes its debut this week on GoComics.com.

In the Sticks is not being released in typical fashion, however. Beginning with a special Sunday edition that ran on October 11, Universal Uclick is offering a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse at the editorial processes involved in the development of a new syndicated comic strip. Over its first three weeks, the strip will alternate between character designs from Cooper’s sketchbook, rough strip sketches with editorial notes, and finished art.

“We’re doing something special with the launch of In the Sticks, something we’ve never done before when introducing a new comic strip,” said Universal Uclick vice president John Glynn. “We’re offering the audience an inside look at the work that goes into the creation of a new feature – how the cartoonist comes up with ideas, how the characters evolve, how the stories take shape, and so on. It’s a fascinating process, and it’s one that visitors to the site are really going to enjoy.”

In Cooper, Universal Uclick found a cartoonist who was eager to share his stories, and his strip’s story, with new readers.

“Having created In the Sticks and experienced this evolution firsthand, I’m really excited to let fans see how the strip grew from an idea to a finished concept,” said Cooper. “It’s a been an incredibly rewarding experience, and the payoff is a strip that I’m proud to call my own.”

In the Sticks is the story of an ex-pro golfer named Del who buys the golf course once owned by his great-grandfather in the hopes of restoring it to its past glory. While Del tends to the greens at the Blooming Dogleg Country Club, he’s kept company by Cosmo, the poetry-writing blue jay, Dewey, the lovable bear who sometimes caddies for the club’s members, and Flip, the misanthropic beaver.

The daily strip will make its debut in newspapers across the country in early 2010.

The Power of Puzzles

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Crossword Puzzle Novel

In these days of seventh generation games consoles and MMORPGs, the good old classic puzzle is still as popular as it ever was.

From the meteoric rise of suduko over the last six years, to the traditional crossword puzzle which soon celebrates its hundredth birthday, puzzles are as old as time and they aren’t going away.

The success of Dan Brown’s novels and their subsequent film adaptations just go to show how much they can capture the imagination of the masses.

So what is it that keeps us coming back for more after all these years and what does the future hold for our favourite pastime?

The fact is that people like nothing more than the feeling of satisfaction that they get when they have risen to the challenge and solved that which at first seems unsolvable.

Successful puzzle creator and editor Will Shortz sums it up perfectly:

“Puzzles in general, I think, they give you a sense of being in control and putting the universe in order,” Shortz says. “With puzzles, you see the whole process through. Each puzzle you solve is a little mystery.”

The advent of the internet has only proved to further their popularity. Once a solitary pursuit, puzzle solving has now evolved. Online communities are springing up all over the net, giving people an opportunity to share their experience.

When once puzzlers were limited by the knowledge which they had stored within their memory, now they literally have all of the information in the world at their fingertips.

The traditional treasure hunt has become a whole different experience altogether. Treasure hunters taking part in games such as those found as cashhunt.co.uk can now take virtual tours of the locations which they are investigating; something which Kitt Williams could have barely imagined when he first wrote the seminal armchair treasure hunt book, Masquerade.

In short, puzzles are here to stay. They will be around a long time after this week’s latest trend in gaming is gone and forgotten.

They stimulate and they captivate, they infuriate and they educate, but most of all they are just plain simple fun.

Never underestimate the power of puzzles
